The Texarkana Police Department is responsible for maintaining law and order in Texarkana, the department delivers effective and efficient services to the city residents while protecting their individual’s rights. The department has been recognized by the Texas Police Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program since 2008. The department has three main divisions: Β Administration, Support Services Division (Criminal Investigation Services, Professional Standards and Recruiting Services, Property and Evidence Control Units, Public Information and Community Services) and Uniform Services Division (Traffic Safety Services, Uniform Patrol). Specialized units include Bi-State Narcotics Task Force, Crime Prevention, Crime Scene Unit, Field Training Unit, K-9 Unit, Problem Oriented Policing Team, Regulatory Affairs, School Resource Officers, S.W.A.T and Traffic Enforcement Unit.
The Texarkana Police Department is headed by Daniel L. Shiner who is the current Chief of Police. Ranks in the department are as follows: chief of police, deputy chief of police, lieutenant, sergeant, detective and finally police officers.

There was a fire in the basement of the old Harrell Building in downtown Texarkana this morning. The Texarkana Texas Fire Department and Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department did a great job of quickly putting it out before it was able to spread to the rest of the building.
